DEATH: After a somewhat lengthy illness, Mr. Chester died at his
DEATH: home here on May 22nd. The funeral services were held the
DEATH: 25th, at the Union Church, Rev. J. Champion officiating,
DEATH: and preached from the text, 2nd Tim. 4-7. The choir
DEATH: rendered four hymns. F.H. Crowell was funeral director.
DEATH: Deceased was a deacon and faithful member of the Advent
DEATH: Church here, and will be greatly missed. He was always
DEATH: willing to use his influence for good, and was a good
DEATH: example of a Christian. He was among the first to settle
DEATH: here beginning in the woods to settle for his home and
DEATH: today he has a cleared farm. He was the father of 13
DEATH: children, seven of whom survive him. Besides his seven
DEATH: sons, he leaves a widow and a wide circle of friends.
DEATH: During his last sickness of about two weeks, his son
DEATH: Curtis, from Chelmsford, Mass., has given him the best of
DEATH: care night and day. Sympathy is extended from the
DEATH: community to the mourning family.

DEATH: After a good deal of suffering and sickness from brain trouble, Chester, Aiken, one of Potton's earliest settlers died at his
DEATH: home May 22nd. He was the father of thirteen children, seven of which survive him. In his early days he came into Potton and
DEATH: settled up the Ruiter brook when there was nothing but a dense forest, but today after a life of earnest toil he leaves a fine
DEATH: cleared farm. The funeral services were held at the Union church, Tuesday the 25th of May, Rev. J. Champion, his pastor,
DEATH: officiating. F.W. Crowell was funeral director. The text for the occasion was a fitting one from 2 Tim. 4:7. "I have fought
DEATH: a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." The church was filled with mourners and friends. Four
DEATH: selections were rendered by the choir. "I heard the voice of Jesus say", "All the way my Savior leads me", "Nearer my God to
DEATH: Thee", and "Fade, Fade each earthly
DEATH: joy, Jesus is mine". Deceased was deacon of the Advent church and at all times used his influence for good. He leaves to
DEATH: mourn his loss a widow, and seven sons, who have the sympathy of the community, during his last sickness of about two weeks

DEATH: Dunkin, December 21 -The death of Harriet A. Aiken, aged 73
DEATH: years, widow of the late Chester Aiken, came as a sudden
DEATH: surprise to her many relatives and friends. She was in her
DEATH: usual health apparently on Friday evening and was facing
DEATH: mittens for her son, Ernest, with whom she lived. She had
DEATH: finished one and feeling a little chilly she said she would
DEATH: leave the other for the next day and went to bed, but she
DEATH: died at six o'clock the next morning. Deceased was born on
DEATH: March 22, 1842, her maiden name being Harriet A. Ruiter,
DEATH: daughter of the late Jacob Ruiter. She was married to
DEATH: Chester A. Aiken in the year 1859 and went with him to live
DEATH: up the Ruiter Brook at Potton, they having to clear the
DEATH: forest and build a log home. It was here they always lived
DEATH: and to them were born a family of 13 children, 5 daughters
DEATH: and 8 sons. Seven of the sons are still living: Samuel A.,
DEATH: Frederic H., Frank M., and Ernest D., are all married and
DEATH: live near the old home, while Curtis A., William J., and
DEATH: Noble C. Aiken live in Massachusetts. These were all
DEATH: present at the funeral. Besides the sons mentioned there
DEATH: are a good many grand children and one great grandchild.
DEATH: She was called the mother of Israel, because of her loving
DEATH: heart and none went away from her home tired or hungry.
DEATH: With her husband she became a member of the Advent Church at
DEATH: Dunkin in their early life. Prayers were said at the house
DEATH: on December 14th with the funeral service held at the Dunkin
DEATH: Church. Rev. John Champion of Sutton officiated assisted by
DEATH: the Rev. W.G. Mansfield of Montgomery, Vt. Daniel Aiken
DEATH: managed the funeral while the sons were bearers and the
DEATH: burial took place at the Glen Sutton burial ground beside
DEATH: the remains of her late husband. Thus another early
DEATH: settler has passed away. She has been a loving and
DEATH: affectionate wife and mother and will surely be missed by
DEATH: her sons but her kindness will never be forgotten.

DEATH: Aiken, which took place at his new home in Abercorn on
DEATH: Thursday, Aug. 2nd. Mr. Aiken was born in Glen Sutton and
DEATH: lived all his life here up to three or four years ago when
DEATH: he moved to Abercorn. He was a son of the late Mr. Samuel
DEATH: Aikin of this place. He was twice married and left two
DEATH: grown-up daughters and one son from each marriage. The
DEATH: children are worthy sons and daughters of worthy parents.
DEATH: "Alonzo" will be missed by many as he was an honest, hard
DEATH: working citizen. His wife and children (all grown up) have
DEATH: much sympathy in their great loss.
